Symptoms of Eye Emergency

There are many signs and symptoms that could indicate you have an eye emergency. These include, but are not limited, to:

  • Eye pain
  • Light sensitivity
  • Flashing lights and floaters
  • Sudden loss or change in vision
  • Stinging or burning
  • Difference in pupil sizes
  • Severe headaches
  • Double vision
  • Trauma

As a rule of thumb if you have any questions or concerns about a possible eye emergency please call our office, visit another ophthalmologist, or visit your nearest emergency room.

Foreign body

If you have a foreign body in the eye then a visit to an ophthalmologist is warranted. In general, it is not a good idea to pull out a foreign body out of your eye.

Chemical Burn

In the event of a chemical burn, flush the eye copiously with water immediately, prior to seeking emergency care.
